City Approves Emergency Housing Protection Act

On June 18, 2020, Philadelphia City Council unanimously approved five bills known as the “Emergency Housing Protection Act.” The bills are currently under review by the City Law Department but are expected to be signed by Mayor Kenney.

The bills establish an eviction diversion program and eviction moratorium, waive certain fees, strengthen penalties for illegal lockouts, and mandate a repayment plan. The provisions of these bills apply in addition to any other provisions of a lease entered into between a tenant and landlord.
